How to check your chocolate system is not blocked and how to fully clean all the parts of your WMF chocolate system.
If your hot chocolate is not pouring or dispensing correctly then you might have a blockage in your chocolate mixing bowl or pipe. Alternatively the chocolate powder might be compacted down too tightly in the hopper.
Check the chocolate powder
Note: Only use the supplied chocolate powder from Amamus Ltd.
First check that the chocolate powder is loose and free flowing in the hopper. Make sure to check this safely by turning the power off for the machine before inserting any utensils.
The chocolate powder can sometimes get compacted and when it does this, the corkscrew that pushes the chocolate powder into the drink will dig a tunnel that will result in no chocolate powder being pulled through into the mixing bowl.
You can remove the chocolate hopper by lifting the display screen up and unlocking the hopper by pulling the coloured lever across (or using the hopper key for 5000/9000 models). With the hopper removed you can check that the powder is loose by turning the corkscrew at the bottom of the hopper. Be carful as chocolate powder will start to pour out, so do this over a bin or container.
Sometimes just turning this will loosen any powder, or if your careful you can give the hopper a little shake to loosen any powder. If the powder is not free flowing break it up with a fork or spoon or remove any old solid chocolate powder and replace with new fresh powder.
If you do completely remove any old powder and you wash out the hopper, make sure you have left the hopper to FULLY dry. As any water or dampness left in the hopper will only clog up the chocolate powder when you pour it in.
Replace the hopper back into the machine and remember to lock it back in place using the the coloured lever or key behind the screen
If the powder is all loose move on to checking and cleaning the mixing bowl.
Cleaning the mixing bowl and rubber pipe
The chocolate mixer bowl is removable and should be removed and cleaned regularly (at least once per week or daily if necessary). The flush as part of the system clean would not be sufficient enough the clean your chocolate system.
If you open the left hand door and disconnect the rubber tube from the base of the mixer bowl by pulling it off, the whole mixer arrangement will slide right out towards you.
It can then be broken into three parts, noting which way round they all go. And given a really good clean under hot water to remove all chocolate residue. Then dry completely and re-assemble.
Just also check the rubber pipe running from the bottom of the mixer bowl to the spout is clean and clear and hasn’t become blocked.
NOTE: The chocolate shouldn’t be pouring out into the bowl until you command a dispense.
If you remove the chocolate hopper there is this circle cap with a piece of metal with a half moon cut-out. This cut-out should be at the top - in the orientation shown in this attached pic below. If the cut out is at the bottom, there will be nothing holding the chocolate back. Loosen the black circle a little and then rotate the metal disc to the correct position and then tighten the black circle again.
Reassemble the mixing bowl and insert it back into the machine with the rubber pipe. There are video instructions in the care menu on the machine that show you how to remove and install these parts.
It would also be worth checking that the frother head unit that dispenses the drinks is also clean by taking this apart and giving it a clean with hot water. reassemble everything and try to dispense a hot chocolate.
